The Land Rover Kentucky Three Day Event has begun! Canada’s Hawley Bennett-Awad gives her mount, Jollybo, a kiss during the first horse inspection. While the event has a different name this year as the title sponsorship has shifted away from Rolex and Land Rover has taken over (thanks, Land Rover!), this iconic CCI4* – one of only six in the world – still hosts the old favorites: bourbon chicken, kentucky bluegrass, and some of the best eventers from across the world.

But some items on the agenda are new – like the CSI3* show jumping invitational grand prix that will also take place at the Kentucky Horse Park this weekend. Spectators, rejoice! Even more excellence to observe.

On Thursday and Friday, the eventers will take to the sandbox to complete their dressage tests, establishing a leaderboard that is sure to change on Saturday during the cross-country phase. On Sunday morning, the final horse inspection will ensure that the horses are feeling up to the job for Sunday afternoon’s show jumping competition, which will decide the final winner. Will it be Oliver Townend, who is poised to take the Rolex Grand Slam?
